LETC Sunday June 24 plan

This Sunday we would like to plan the club training session around an aquathon race at beautiful Buntzen Lake. The aquathon is a 1 km swim followed by a 10 km trail run around Buntzen. For those of you unfamiliar with Buntzen, the swim will be in pristine clear freshwater and the 10 km run on a challenging course. The race entry fee is $30 and there are only about a dozen entries right now, so very low key but fits well in our schedule.

We will meet at the boat launch in the NW corner of the beach by the BC Hydro boathouse.

For those interested in the Aquathon, you can register Sunday at 7:30 AM. The race starts at 8:00.

For those interested in training without the race, plan on arriving around 9:30. Alan may or may not do the aquathon, and Andrew is doing some race support at the Scotia Bank half-marathon, hence the later start.

The workout is a long easy swim, either around the islands or along the lake shore.

After the swim there are lots of trails in the area. The lake loop is about 10 km and there are many “add ons” you can pick up to increase your run time without doing laps. For those with dogs, these trails are dog friendly and there is an enclosed dog beach at the main beach. JJ recommends the trails at Buntzen but has found the dog area too much of an un-neutered muscle beach for his liking.

If the weather is nice (Environment Canada says “fat chance”), we would like to have a club picnic/BBQ after. This is bring your own food at this time, unless some optimists would like to coordinate the BBQ paraphernalia...

See you there!
