Participants’ Code of Conduct
During training and sports events, we want to observe the following:
- Participants/athletes having fun and enjoying themselves.
- Practice sessions and activities that, by design and by implementation, promote self-esteem in participants/athletes.
- Participants/athletes learning the fundamental technical aspects of the sport.
- Participants/athletes making new friends by demonstrating positive attitudes and tolerance.
- Participants/athletes having fair and equal opportunity to participate in practice activities and competitions, regardless of skill level. Consequently, athletes of more skill should not expect to receive greater attention.
The Leading Edge Code of Conduct is summarized as follows:
- Listen: Listen carefully to those who are speaking with you.
- Respect:
- Others (including, but not limited to: coaches, club members, officials, opponents,
volunteers, facility and event neighbours). - The equipment and facilities loaned to you for your use.
- The environment.

- Work: Give your best effort at all times, both in individual pursuits and in teamwork.
- Fair play: Fair play for Athletes is inherent to the Code of Conduct
- I will play by the rules, and in the spirit of the event.
- I will control my temper – fighting and “mouthing off” can spoil the activity for everybody.
- I will respect my opponents.
- I will remember that winning isn’t everything – that having fun, improving my skills, making friends and doing my best are also important.
- I will acknowledge all good performances – those of my club and of my opponents.
- I will remember that coaches, volunteers, and officials are there to help me. I will accept their decisions and show them respect.
Coach’s responsibilities to uphold the participant’s Code of Conduct:
- Be the program leader and be aware of all that is happening in the program
- Plan and lead fun, safe, and purposeful practice sessions.
- Create an environment that will promote all the values identified in this code, in training and in competition.
